Joško Gvardiol reflects on early success at RB Leipzig, position & role
RB Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol reflects on his quick rise in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, even though he was still new to playing at top-level football.
The 19-year old is still new in the German football scene, but has since transformed from a debut star to a regular first-team player at the Saxony based club.
Speaking during an interview as published by Rblive, Gvardiol revealed it was still early days, but he was unfazed by what he would see in a completely different league. Last summer, he was a member of the Croatian men’s national team in the European Football Championship.
“To be honest, I was surprised at how quickly I got on the pitch and played. I had to adjust to the team and the league for a while,” he admits.
For him, it was a success. The German league was completely different, but he was able to pull through to become a regular and not just an introductory player.
Even though age was more of a factor, Joško Gvardiol could pull through to become RB Leipzig’s new mainstay in the defence amid the departure of some important players like Upamecano.
According to his words, he was never nervous and was willing to play to his full strength. He also loves football and would play out his best at all times. He was also sorry for the departure of former coach Jesse Marsch.
“I love football, have a dream job. Why should I be nervous and negative before kick-off?”, Said Gvardiol. He is sorry for the separation from Jesse Marsch, who trusted him early on. “Unfortunately we weren’t good enough with him, we didn’t have the results that we want and need. That’s football too.”
Joško Gvardiol on the game against VfB Stuttgart
The Dierotenbullen would play VfB Stuttgart this weekend.
“But we know that we have to improve in Stuttgart and that we need our highest level there to win.”
“I haven’t been able to play with fans that often in the Red Bull Arena. I want them back.”
RB Leipzig smash Mainz 05 last week to begin the second half of the Bundesliga on a bright note.
