Joshua Oluwayemi Ogunyemi promoted to Spurs senior team by Jose Mourinho
Nigeria’s fast-rising goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi Ogunyemi has been been promoted to Spurs senior team by manager Jose Mourinho after an impressive performance with the club’s U23 setup.
The Nigerian-born who has been tipped for greatness has been in form, achieving the number one spot in the U23 youth development squad of the club.
According to Allnigeriacoccer, he is expected to join the first team ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United and he is already training with them.
According to the report, he was spotted in a Spurs training session with the senior team alongside first-team number one goalie Hugo Lloris, who he is expected to learn from.
Why Jose Mourinho promoted the young lad for the senior team despite the abundance of goalkeepers
Alfie Whiteman the other preferred option at the goalkeeping department has undergone surgery due to an injury sustained and he is expected to make a return probably from May.
The stats this year and why is expected to match up with the senior team
He was recently on loan at Maidenhead United in the English Conference National League were had a taste of Professional Football since his development to the U23.
However, the club made him return quickly back in January so that he could compete for a starting shirt in the team.
At least, the experience he had gotten at Maidenhead United would serve as backup for the young London born Nigeria who is expected to shine with the senior team in the absence of Alfie Whiteman.
The way forward for Ogunyemi who’s currently at the highest level of his career with Tottenham Hotspur
At least, he would take it from here. The chance has finally been handed to him by Jose Mourinho who has watched all through the season, forcing a change of mind to make his return to the first team.
Spurs have faced downtime in terms of performance in the English Premier League and the Portuguese coach wants to try his best to elevate the team at all sides.
A major step was to promote the Nigerian English goalkeeper to the first team she could develop further.
Hopefully, this will further increase his exposure as a professional and further increase his chances of making it into the first team.
For the manager, he knows what he wants from his players, a reason why he has continued to monitor the situation with the player.
Rather than moving to the market for goalkeeper, it would be best option to promote the young lad and by so doing, he gains more exposure and experience even as he continues to aim higher.
The London based club at the is at the brink of loosing out of the place for Europe next season which one of the worst outcomes in recent years.
For Mourinho, it would be to save his season with the club after being eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by Czech republic outfit Slavia Prague.
The club would do everything possible to get a ticket for European place next.
