Jack Grealish on the bench against Burnley as City win big at Turf Moor
Manchester City star Jack Grealish was an unused substitute against Burnley on Friday evening. Pep Guardiola opted to play a front three of Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden, with Erling Haaland as the lone striker.
The 27-year-old winger was one of the most outstanding players for Pep Guardiola last season. Perhaps the Spanish tactician wants to rotate his team and hand more time to other players in smaller fixtures.
Burnley FC won promotion back to the Premier League under the guidance of former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. The Clarets did show some flashes of brilliance, especially in the second, but could not break through City’s defense successfully.
Two goals from Erling Haaland and Rodri gave Manchester City a comfortable win over Burnley to begin the new season strongly.
The Cityzens have a long season ahead and need a healthy squad.
Why was Jack Grealish on the bench against Burnley?
Before the game, Jack Grealish was declared fit and was listed on the matchday squad. However, he was left on the substitute bench and did not come on either.
Perhaps Pep Guardiola did not bother introducing the English winger as the game had already been won. But the most important thing is the upcoming UEFA Super Cup tie with Sevilla on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola is looking to complete the campaign by lifting the UEFA Super Cup, thus leaving behind his best legs for the important game.
