It’s a derby: Chelsea vs Liverpool match report
The first round also brought the first derby. Last season, heavily embarrassed Chelsea and slightly better Liverpool played at Stamford Bridge without a winner – 1:1 (1:1).
The completely renewed Blues, although they spent more than 600.000.000 million euros on “reinforcements” last summer and January, started under the command of Mauricio Pochettino. And not the best. After a genius assist from Salah, Luis Diaz put the Reds in the lead in the 18th minute.
Ten minutes later, the Egyptian’s goal was disallowed for offside, and the equalizer soon followed.
The debutant in the Chelsea shirt was scored by the Frenchman Disasi, a newcomer from Monaco. Just a minute and a half later, the VAR room had their work cut out once again, disallowing Chilwell’s goal.
Numerous oscillations, several out-of-series moves, a drop in tempo, and then drama at the end of the game. All this marked a very exciting derby opening the season in the Premier League, in which Chelsea and Liverpool shared the spoils.
Both teams can regret that they didn’t get the victory, but at the same time be satisfied with the point won in a very high-quality football performance.
Both teams showed the weaknesses observed in the preparatory period – a problem in defense. Although Chelsea looked better on the pitch, they had better control of the game, but in the end they were unable to extract a win in the season opener.
An interesting fact will accompany this duel between two rivals who met most often when it comes to the era of the Premier League.
Until Luis Diaz’s goal, there was no goal in the previous four matches – the matches in the League and FA Cup finals ended in 120 minutes without a goal, and last season in the league, both matches also ended without a goal.
In the second round, Chelsea will visit West Ham, while Liverpool will host Bournemouth.
