Harry Kane could stay at Spurs as Bayern’s record bid rejected
After Bayern Munich’s latest approach was rejected, Harry Kane is leaning toward staying at Tottenham this summer.
The third offer from Bayern, for the England captain, was worth £86 million, but it wasn’t enough to persuade Daniel Levy to sell. They have to either up their offer for Kane, whose contract expires next summer, or conclude that their negotiations with Levy have failed.
New reports suggest that Kane, who is in the final year of his contract, is already making plans to remain at Spurs for the upcoming campaign.
Kane has reportedly been impressed by the idea of new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou and enjoyed working out with the Greek-Australian.
Kane, who scored four goals in Sunday’s 5-1 friendly victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, wants his future settled this week before Tottenham faces Brentford in the season’s opening Premier League game on Sunday, August 13.
The 30-year-old hopes to fly to Barcelona for Tuesday’s friendly match, but if there is a breakthrough in discussions, things may quickly change.
Kane has several reasons for wanting his future to be resolved immediately, including personal ones. In a few weeks, his wife will give birth, making travel impossible.
If Kane stays on at Spurs, he will miss out on playing in Europe for an entire season. Spurs also are close to signing Argentine striker Alejo Véliz from Rosario Central and Dutch center defender Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.
They’ve already secured the services of James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips, and Guglielmo Vicario.
