Chelsea FC forward Hakim Ziyech has indicated he has called time on his international football career with the Moroccan Men’s National Team.
The former Ajax hotshot who was left out of the country’s final roster for the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon has decided his International allegiance at the moment.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website as the club prepares for their Club World Cup semi-final bout with Al Hilal, the Moroccan revealed his decision to quit the national team at the moment.
‘I will not be returning to the national team. It is my final decision,’ he responded, acknowledging there would be disappointment in Morocco at the news. ‘It is all clear to me how things are going over there, and I am focusing on what I am doing, and that right now is my club.’ said Hakim Ziyech, according to Chelsea official website.
Morocco would take on the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the African World Cup qualifying playoffs on March 23 on the road, with the second leg set to be played on home soil.
The decision from Ziyech means he will miss the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year.
