Maduka Okoye’s dazzling start to his super eagle’s career might be on a tight corner since Gernot Rohr has not handed the number one role to him, at least for the time being.
His performance for club and country has been impressive so far, but his previous two games for the Nigerian national team was questionable, giving the German coach double thoughts as to whether he’ll hand the number one role to him or not.
Okoye conceded four goals during Nigeria’s AFCON Qualifiers first leg clash with Sierra Leone, despite leading four-nil initially in the first half.
“All the goalkeepers in the team have been the first choice for some time, and now it’s Okoye’s turn,” Rohr told Own Goal Nigeria.
Although travelling to the West African country in the reverse fixture, he kept a clean sheet.
In the friendly games against Algeria and Tunisia, Maduka conceded two goals, even though they were just friendlies which were not considered.

The 21-year old who plays for German second division side Sparta Rotterdam have only managed seven appearances this season for the Dutch league side.
But Rohr’s comments might call for the need for improvement on his part. As things stand currently, Uzoho remains the only one to challenge for the number one spot, but in recent times, he’s been finding it difficult to command regular action.
