Geoffrey Kondogbia is close to securing a move to Marseille for 8 million euros as Atletico Madrid looks to make some money from summer sales to fund its plans for the market.

The 30-year-old midfielder has spent three seasons at the La Liga side and will continue his career in the French Ligue 1 after 93 appearances for the Rojiblancos. Although he was inspiring in his first few games at the club, he became more of a rotation player in Diego Simeone’s team and wasn’t a regular starter.

According to Fichajes, Marseille has intensified efforts to complete the signing of the Central African Republic star. The deal is worth five million euros and an additional three million euros.

Apart from Marseille, Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas was interested in securing the services of the midfielder and was willing to match Atletico Madrid’s demands. Still, he chose to join the French club.

Kondogbia, whose contract ends in the summer of 2024 is expected to move to the Ligue 1 as he has lost his place in the first team. Last season, he could only manage just 1,388 minutes.
