Colours and teams are inseparable. And as such, every team decides to adopt a particular colour. In most cases, clubs tend to choose their primary colours from their environment or perception wearing such colours favours them.

Orange is one of the unique colours, and interestingly, some of the most popular teams globally have adopted it as their primary colour.

Over the years, football teams have changed the way colours are used. Today, kit manufacturers have dropped some of the most eye-catching designs.

Here are some of the famous teams that wear the orange jersey.

1. Dutch men’s football team

The Dutch Men’s National team is one of the famous teams that wear orange kits. The team wears an all-orange jersey which includes a shirt, shorts, and socks.

The team adopted the colour as it has been the historic colours of the country, which originated from the ruler of the country, Prince of Orange. Today, the colours also reflect the team’s nickname, which is known as the Oranje or sometimes the Orange Boys.

The country’s supporters club is called Het Oranje Legion (The Orange Legion).

The Netherlands Men’s National team is one of the most successful teams in Europe and has won the European Football Championship.

2. Ivory Coast Men’s National team 

The Ivorian Men’s National team has worn an all-orange jersey since its establishment. The colours were drawn from the country’s national colours.

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire are one of the biggest forces in soccer on the African continent and have won the AFCON. The team also has a good competitive record in other international competitions.

3. Dundee United

Dundee United is a Scottish professional football club. They play their home games at Tannadice Park. Its nickname, The Tangerines, is coined from the club’s primary colour, ‘orange.’

Dundee United used to wear green and white shirts before it finally adopted the tangerine kits. The club has won the Scottish Cup, League Cup, and other senior trophies.

4. FC Lorient

FC Lorient is a french football club that competes in Ligue 1. Based in Lorient, Brittany, they play their home matches at the Stade Yves Allainmat.

The club kits are a combination of orange shirts and black shorts. Its nickname, dark orange and black, was from the traditional colours.

FC Lorient is not one of the giants in France football but has the reputation of a con as they won the French Cup and other senior trophies.

5. İstanbul Başakşehir

İstanbul Başakşehir is a Turkish professional football club that competes in Turkiye Super Lig. They’re based in Başakşehir, İstanbul and play their home games at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium.

The club’s kits consist of an orange shirt and black shorts. The orange colour is maintained in other versions of the club’s kits in stripes form. The club nickname ‘The Orange-Navy Blues’ originated from primary colours.

İstanbul Başakşehir finally reached the Turkish top flight in the 2007–08 season and have gone on to win the league and the domestic cup, as well as making a memorable appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

6. Blackpool 

English club Blackpool Football Club is one of the famous teams wearing orange. It was founded in 1887 and has been part of the English football system.

Blackpool tried several colours, like blue, before adopting the tangerine colours, which have undergone many changes ever since. The kit combines orange shirts, white shorts, and orange socks.

The Tangerines have won the FA Cup, one of the oldest football trophies in world football. The club has also won other English football trophies in its history.

7. FC Shakhtar Donetsk

Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk is one of the teams with beautiful colours. The club wears orange and black horizontal stripes, black shorts, black socks, and orange stripes.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk is one of the two most successful teams in Ukraine. The club has won the domestic league since its inception, more than its local rivals Dynamo Kyiv.

Apart from the achievement in the domestic scene, the club has won the UEFA Europa League and maintains a good record in European competitions.

8. Houston Dynamo FC

MLS outfit Houston Dynamo is one of the teams donning orange kits. The colours include orange, blue, and black. The club’s colours reflect the nickname, which is known as ‘Orange Crush.’

Dynamo was founded in 2005 and began to compete in the Major League Soccer when it was granted the license in the 2006 season, winning the first two editions of the MLS Cup in 2006 and 2007.

The club competes in the Western Conference and is based in East Downtown Houston. They play their home games at Shell Energy Stadium.

9. Clube Atlético Mineiro Peru

Clube Atlético Mineiro is a Peruvian professional football club. The Miners are sometimes called Orange shirts, shorts, and socks. The club also adopted other colour combinations like white and navy blue.

Club Atlético Minero is not a powerhouse in Peruvian football but has a good presence and maintains a high level of followers within and outside their locality.

10. Aalesunds Fotballklubb

Aalesunds is a Norwegian professional football club based in the town of Ålesund. It is one of the teams which adopts orange as its traditional colours.

The club wears a combination of orange and blue shorts and orange socks. Its nickname, Orange and blue, was drawn from these colours.

Aalesunds maintains a strong presence in Norway, having won the Norwegian Cup in the past.
