Everton closing in on Leeds striker Wilfred Gnonto
Everton have identified Wilfred Gnonto as one of their key targets ahead of the transfer deadline and have already had a first offer for the Italian international rejected.
Gnonto started Leeds’ Championship opener against Cardiff last weekend. Still, he was absent for the midweek victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup, fueling rumors that he is trying to force a transfer from the team.
In response to various teams’ interest, Leeds set Wilfred Gnonto’s price at £25 million.
Leeds has made it clear to Gnonto that he will not be available for transfer, as they are determined to keep him to return to the Premier League quickly.
Manager Daniel Farke confirmed Gnonto’s absence, and the club decided to make a public statement about it before the Birmingham game.
The 19-year-old made a good impression in his first season at Leeds after joining FC Zurich last summer, but he could not prevent the Whites from being relegated from the Premier League. He scored two goals, created four assists, and made his international debut last season.
To fend off any interest from rival Premier League teams, Everton is eager to finalize a deal for Gnonto as quickly as possible.
Can Wilfred Gnonto score enough goals to keep Everton in the premier league?
