Former São Paulo forward and fans idol Aloisio Chulapa is backing the club to sign Douglas Costa who’s currently in the books of Italian giants Juventus Turin.

The Brazilian who also played for the São Paulo based club is open to Costa returning to Brazil in what he calls adding strength to the current squad.

As per Globo, Aloisio Chulapa dreams of Douglas Costa as means to reinforce the team ahead of the 2022 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A season which the club last won in 2008.

During an interview as revealed by Globo, Aloisio Chulapa expressed his desire of having a player like Costa in the fold of São Paulo, which has been without the Série A title for over thirteen years.

“If Douglas Costa comes, he’s also a good reinforcement, if Pato comes, he’s good reinforcement. As Miranda, Arboleda, Volpi’s shadow already have it, it’s also good to have the backup. Yes, I’m enjoying the São Paulo market – he said.

You have to prepare these players, be careful not to get injured. Douglas Costa is a very good striker, I just couldn’t let them have the injuries. If you don’t have the lesions and come, Tricolor will help a lot. I’m enjoying it and I hope that more reinforcements come so that we don’t go through the trouble we went through, because I almost went into a coma (laughs) – he added.

Aloísio played for FC São Paulo from 2005 to 2008, winning the FIFA Club World Cup with the club in 2005. He also won three Brazilian league titles with the club before departing for Al-Rayyan Sports Club of Qatar.

There are concerns about the club’s trophy drought. The club has failed to win the league title since 2008.

The 2021 campaign was even worse as they failed to qualify for either of the South American club Championship after finishing 13th on the log.

With the transfer window set to open from 2022, São Paulo is expected to make big changes and Aloisio Chupala has already recommended Douglas Costa who’s currently with Grêmio on loan from Juventus.
