Current Premier League managers and assistant coaches 2022 /2023

The English Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Contested by 20 teams, the league has seen the departure and arrival of new managers as teams continue the reshuffle of their backroom staff.

 

Since the start of the campaign, there has been a movement as we’ve seen some managers sacked and some appointed. Some of the biggest shifts in management include Graham Potter’s appointment at Chelsea and Antonio Conte’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur.

 

Interesting Football brings you the list of current Premier League managers in the 2022/23 season.

 

1. Arsenal – (Mikel Arteta)

 

Mikel Arteta has been Arsenal’s coach since December 2019. He was an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City before taking over the top job at the Emirates Stadium.

 

Arsenal are in the race for the Premier League title this season with credit to the outside tactics of Mikel Arteta.

2. Aston Villa – (Unai Emery)

 

Four-time Europa League winner Unai Emery is the head coach of Everton FC. He joined the Villans in October 2022 from Villarreal CF after lifting the Europa League with the Yellow Submarines.

 

Unai Emery’s appointment at Villa Park has brought significant changes to the team. The Villans have expected to have a different outcome next season, with the club eyeing a long-term project with the Spaniard.

3. AFC Bournemouth – (Gary O’Neil)

 

Gary O’Neil was appointed in November 2022 after his impressive performance as interim boss of the Cherries.

Bournemouth crumbled during the season. However, there’s been a recent upturn, as they’re above the drop zone.

 

Assistant: Tommy Elphick

 

4. Brighton & Hove Albion ( Roberto De Zerbi)

 

Belgian coach Roberto De Zerbi was brought from Genk to replace Graham Potter. So far, he has had an outstanding campaign in his first season in the English top flight.

 

Brighton is currently one of the best teams in the English Premier League and could be making it to Europe.

5. Brentford (Thomas Frank)

 

Thomas Frank is the head coach of Brentford. The Dane joined the Bees in 2016 from Brøndby IF initially as an assistant coach and was promoted to head coach in 2018. At the end of the 2020–21 season in the Championship, he secured promotion to the Premier League with the club.

He is currently one of the most talked about managers in the league due to his impact on the team.

 

Assistant: Claus Nørgaard

 

6. Chelsea (Frank Lampard, Interim)

 

Frank Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss following the departure of Graham Potter. The club legend returned to the club for the second time as head coach.

Assistant: Bruno Saltor

 

7. Crystal Palace (Roy Hodgson)

 

Roy Hodgson is one of the familiar faces at Selhurst Park. The English manager was appointed to take charge of the team following the departure of Patrick Vieira. He has been the head of the team previously.

 

Hodges has been tasked with keeping the Eagles in the English top flight amid uncertainties.

8. Everton FC (Sean Dyche)

 

Sean Dyche was appointed the new head coach of the Toffees in January 2023, replacing Frank Lampard. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club and was saddled with preserving the club’s Premier League status beyond this season.

Assistant: Ian Woan

 

9. Fulham (Marco Silva)

 

Marco Silva is one of the traditional Portuguese managers in English Football. He was appointed in July 2021 and agreed to a three-year deal with the club. He previously managed Everton, Watford, and Hull City.

Assistant: Stuart Gray

 

10. Leicester City (Dean Smith)

 

Dean Smith was placed in charge of Leicester City following the departure of Brendan Rodgers. He was appointed on the 11th of April 2023 as the Foxes battle to keep their EPL status beyond the current campaign.

Assistant: Craig Shakespeare and John Terry.

 

11. Leeds United (Javi Gracia)

 

Javi Gracia currently leads the Whites following the exit of Jesse Marsch. The Spaniard agreed to become the new head coach of Leeds United on February 21st, 2023, as the club battles to save its season.

Assistant: Zigor Aranalde, Michael Skubala, and Mikel Antía.

 

12. Liverpool FC (Jurgen Klopp)

 

Jurgen Klopp is one of the current long-standing managers in the Premier League. The German football manager was appointed in 2015 and has won major trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, and Club World Cup.

 

He is currently one of the most successful coaches in the club’s modern history.

Assistant: Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz.

 

13. Manchester City (Pep Guardiola)

 

Pep Guardiola has single-handedly dominated the EPL in the past decade, winning six league titles. The Spanish coach joined Manchester City in 2019 after leaving his role at Bayern Munich.

His performance ranks him among the best managers in the Premier League.

Assistant: Rodolfo Borrell, Carlos Vicens, and Enzo Maresca.

14. Manchester United (Erik ten Haag)

 

Erik ten Haag was appointed the new Man United manager in April 2022, replacing Ralf Ragnick, the club’s interim manager. He brought significant changes to the team in his first season.

Assistant: Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.

 

15. Newcastle United (Eddie Howe)

 

Eddie Howe is the current head coach of Newcastle United in a surprise move by the Magpies. The English manager was appointed from November 2021 until the summer of 2024.

 

Eddie Howe replaced Steve Bruce at the club despite being out of work since his departure from AFC Bournemouth in 2020.

Assistant: Jason Tindall

 

16. Nottingham Forest FC (Steve Cooper)

 

Steve Cooper is the head coach of Nottingham Forest. He was appointed in 2021 and helped to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Assistant: Alan Tate

 

17. Southampton FC (Ruben Selles)

 

Ruben Selles was appointed as the new head coach of Southampton on February 24, replacing Nathan Jones. The agreement would see him lead the team until the end of the season.

Assistant: N/A.

 

18. Tottenham Hotspur (Cristian Stellini – acting)

 

Cristian Stellini was appointed in the acting role at Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. He replaced Antonio Conte.

Assistant: N/A

 

19. West Ham United (David Moyes)

 

David Moyes is the current manager of West Ham United. The Englishman is in his second spell after joining the club in 2018.

Assistant: Billy McKinlay

 

20. Wolverhampton Wanderers (Julen Lopetegui)

 

The current Wolverhampton Wanderers boss is Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard was appointed in November 2022.

Assistant: Pablo Sanz
