Chelsea stealing another player from Liverpool?
It resonated when the English media disclosed that Liverpool had beaten Chelsea in the bidding for Caicedo and that they would pay a record £111,000,000 (about €129,000,000) for his services to Brighton.
However, there was a big change because the young midfielder promised to the Blues even earlier, so they raised the offer (around 133,600,000 euros), and he is undoubtedly Chelsea’s new player now.
Liverpool desperately needed a replacement for Fabinho, who moved to Al Ittihad. As the story about Caicedo suddenly collapsed despite a record offer, the only option left was Romeo Lavia from Southampton, whom they had been chasing for some time.
The Saints rejected offers from Anfield, but as the transfer of the Ecuadorian footballer from Brighton backfired, they decided on Anfield to fulfill the conditions of the club from Saint Mary’s.
Namely, as reported by the Athletic, Lavia, like Caicedo, also decided to join Chelsea! The two clubs are on excellent terms, and a compensation agreement should not be a problem.
The sum of around 50,000,000 pounds (58,000,000 euros), with bonuses, will be enough for the Saints to lend a hand to the Blues and open the door for the 19-year-old midfielder to transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Lavia was close to moving to West London at the beginning of last season. At the end of the transfer window, Chelsea allegedly offered the mentioned fee to Southampton for his services, even though he had about 400 minutes behind him on the Premier League pitches.
The management of Southampton flatly refused it because they signed him just a few months earlier, but now it seems they will be able to get the same amount of money for the young footballer.
The talented Belgian grew up in Anderlecht’s academy, but in July 2020, he moved to Manchester City’s youth academy. Then, in July of last year, he moved to Southampton for 12,300,000 euros.
The Saints were relegated from the Premier League, Lavia did not play in the first two matches in the second tier, and now he is on his way to strengthen the Blues’ midfield with Caicedo.
