Chelsea signs Cole Palmer
Chelsea continues to rule the summer football market. However, it is not always successful. Here is the new move of the West London club.
Cole Palmer was bought from the champions of Europe and England, Manchester City, for 50 million euros. The guy who recently scored a goal in the UEFA Super Cup for the “citizens,” who later, after a penalty shootout, won the trophy. The news was published by the famous transfer expert Fabricio Romano, which certainly adds weight to it.
This move by Manchester City is somewhat surprising because Palmer was projected as Riyad Mahrez’s successor on the right wing after the Algerian’s departure to Saudi Arabia.
However, in the meantime, Jeremy Doku was bought from Rennes for 60 million euros, and apparently, Pep Guardiola decided to give the French an advantage.
When looking at the sales history of Citizens, it is concluded that Palmer will become the most expensive student at the City’s academy.
Previously, that epithet stood next to Sean Wright Phillips, who at one time was also sold to Chelsea for 31,500,000 euros. Palmer grew up in City, which he joined as an eight-year-old in 2010. At 18, he joined the first team, but unlike many young players, he did not go on loan from the Etihad.
He has made 41 appearances so far and was expected to get a bigger role under Pep Guardiola, especially after scoring goals in the Community Shield against Arsenal and the European Super Cup against Sevilla. However, he was unsatisfied with his role in Manchester, and Chelsea offered him a way out.
The talented Palmer got a place in the team from Callum Hudson Odoi, who should move to Nottingham Forest, and one of the Blues’ options to strengthen the competition on the wings was Ansu Fati from Barcelona.
However, the Blues decided to go with a boy from City’s school, so Tottenham connected with the young hope of the Blaugrana, but in the end, the victory in the race for his signature was won by Brighton.
