Brentford insists on keeping Ivan Toney amid interest from Chelsea and Spurs
Despite his extended suspension, Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly mulling January bids for Brentford attacker Ivan Toney. The England striker has been suspended from play until January 17 and fined £50,000 for violating FA betting regulations.
Chelsea and Tottenham, who are currently looking for a new striker, are ready to compete for his services in January.
Chelsea are currently functioning with Nicolas Jackson in attack due to Christopher Nkunku’s injury, but Mauricio Pochettino is eager to add additional goals to his squad.
While Richarlison will be given a chance to shine as Spurs’ No. 9, Spurs are still looking for a replacement for Harry Kane.
Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away, but Brentford boss Thomas Frank says he wants to keep him and is certain the team will score goals without him.
His presence up front has not been missed by the Bees thus far this season, as seen by their five goals in their first two Premier League games.
Frank believes that Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over local rivals Fulham shows the club’s ability to carry on without Toney and supports his decision not to sign a replacement during the transfer window.
Both teams have been impressed by Toney, but despite the player’s absence, Brentford isn’t considering a sale.
According to the report, Toney may be available for as little as £40 million, but Brentford could ask for more.
