Barcelona to monitor 10 players at the World Cup, eye January transfer swoop
Barcelona are keeping a watchful eye on some of the players that would represent their respective countries in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This is due to the club’s commitment to returning to the highest level of competition.
Barcelona was busy in the previous transfer window and successfully brought significant changes to its first team, including the signing of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and Franck Kessié.
The Blaugrana have an extensive list of players they will monitor when hostilities begin at the World Cup. The tournament, as it is best known, is expected to showcase the best players globally.
According to Fichajes, with an extract from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona wants to have a strong squad for the second part of the football season in Spain and Europe after the World Cup.
The 10 players Barcelona will monitor at the World Cup in Qatar, will pursue in the January transfer window
1. Benjamin Pavard
Benjamin Pavard was one of the regulars during Bayern Munich’s success in the 2020 UEFA Champions League. The Frenchman has since become a target by top European football clubs.
Although his contract will end in 2024, it is unlikely Bayern Munich will be open to letting the 26-year-old depart the Allianz Arena. However, Bavarian Football Works reports he is exploring other options and could be available to leave Bayern Munich with the right offer and the best club.
2. Thomas Meunier
Although not the best option for Barcelona, the Catalan club could seek an alternative in Thomas Meunier to address the issues with the right-back position at the club.
As his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, Borussia Dortmund are reportedly asking for 10 million euros for the Belgian footballer.
3. Youssoufa Moukoko
The German footballer is one of the fastest-rising footballers in the Bundesliga. He’s been linked with the club lately, even though Dortmund is not considering selling the player.
But he could leave Borussia Dortmund in the winter for around a 30 million euros fee.
4. Marco Asensio
Marco Asensio’s Barcelona links are not new. The Catalan is watching the situation around the player at Real Madrid and his performance at the World Cup. His contract with Real Madrid will end in the summer of 2023 without a renewal.
5. Ilkay Gündogan
An unlikely signing, Barcelona is keeping tabs on Ilkay Gündogan, who’s one of the key players at Manchester City. His contract would end in 2023, and the Cityzens are working hard to extend it.
6. Rafael Leão
Rafael Leão has continually attracted interest from European football clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain. Right now, Barcelona has decided to keep a watchful eye on him.
The AC Milan forward is on the train to Qatar with the Portuguese Men’s National team.
7. Juan Foyth
Arguably one of the best players at Villarreal and the main option in the Argentine defence, Juan Foyth is on the radar of several clubs, including FC Barcelona.
8. Youri Tielemans
Youri Tielemans is expected to depart the King Power stadium with numerous links. Our earlier report suggests Real Madrid are monitoring the situation around the Belgian footballer.
9. Bernardo Silva
Bernardo Silva is one of the surprise names on Barcelona’s wishlist. The Portuguese midfielder could depart the Etihad stadium after the World Cup with consistent links with Barcelona.
10. Diogo Dalot
Dalot has been outstanding in a Manchester United shirt this season and played a vital role in Erik ten Haag’s new team. The Portuguese, alongside Bruno Guimarães, will represent Portugal at the Mondial.
Dalot is a top target in Europe amid uncertainties surrounding his future at Old Trafford. According to reports, Manchester United are pushing to extend his contract, which expires next year.
