Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have one of the most intense and fiercely contested rivalries in world football. El Clasico, as the fixture between the two clubs is known, is always highly anticipated and closely watched by fans around the globe.

While both teams have enjoyed great success over the years, there have been times when one club has emerged as the clear victor on the pitch. In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the biggest defeats suffered by Real Madrid at the hands of FC Barcelona.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (2010)

One of Blaugrana’s biggest wins over Real Madrid happened on November 29, 2010, in a La Liga match. Barcelona completely dominated the game, with an astonishing 72% possession of the ball, outplaying Real Madrid in every aspect, with their trademark tiki-taka passing game, which proved too much for Madrid to handle.

Barcelona owned the game with a score of 5-0 at the Camp Nou Stadium. The goals were scored by Xavi, Pedro, David Villa (2), and Jeffren. The victory was considered historic as it marked Barcelona’s largest-ever margin of victory against Real Madrid in a competitive match.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (1974)

This was one of the earliest matches in El Clasico history that saw Barcelona inflict a heavy defeat on Real Madrid. Rinus Michels’ Barcelona stunned Luis Molowny’s Real Madrid with goals from Asensi (2), Cruyff, Juan Carlos, and Sotil.

Barcelona played with flair and pace, while Real Madrid looked sluggish and disorganized. Asensi scored twice in the first half with two headers from crosses by Rexach and Cruyff. Cruyff scored the third goal with a solo run and a low shot past Miguel Angel.

Juan Carlos scored the fourth goal with a curling shot from outside the box after a pass from Sotil. Sotil scored the fifth goal with a header from another cross by Rexach.

Real Madrid 2-6 Barcelona (2009)

This was another classic match in El Clasico history, as Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona destroyed Real Madrid at the Bernabeu with a stunning display of attacking football.

Henry and Messi scored twice each, while Puyol and Pique added one goal to complete the rout. Real Madrid scored through Higuain and Ramos, but they were no match for Barcelona’s fluidity and intensity.

The result was a humiliation for Real Madrid, who had to endure their arch-rivals celebrating on their turf, and a triumph for Barcelona, who went on to win the treble that season.

Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid (2018)

Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-1 in a La Liga match at Camp Nou on October 28, 2018. The goals were scored by Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez (3), and Arturo Vidal for Barcelona, while Marcelo scored for Madrid.

The victory was significant as it marked Barcelona’s biggest win over Real Madrid in a La Liga match in over a decade. The win showcased Barcelona’s attacking firepower and tactical superiority over their arch-rivals.

Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (2015)

On November 21, 2015, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 4-0 in a La Liga match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The victory was significant as it marked Barcelona’s biggest win over Real Madrid in a La Liga match since 2010.

The win showcased Barcelona’s attacking prowess and tactical superiority over their rivals, with midfield duo Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets providing ample support to the trio of Leo Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez.

Madrid’s defense struggled to cope with Barcelona’s pace and precision, with both goals from Suarez coming from mistakes by Madrid’s defenders.
