In the second round of the DFB-Pokal, Augsburg suffered a 5-2 defeat against Bayern Munich under Julian Nagelsmann. 

Bayern Munich won the game thanks to goals from Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies, midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, and striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting of Cameroon. Augsburg, with 13 points, are 12th in the standings.

RB Leipzig, on the other side, defeated Tim Walter’s Hamburg 4-0 in the DFB-Pokal second round. RB Leipzig, captained by Marco Rose, won thanks to a brace from Yussuf Poulsen, Mohamed Simakan and Benjamin Henrich. Leipzig are currently 10th in the Bundesliga standings.

The list of injured players for Augsburg keeps growing, with Tobias Strobl, Fredrik Winther, Fredrik Jensen, Andre Hahn, Rafal Gikiewicz, Felix Uduokhai, Reece Oxford, Niklas Dorsch, Noah Sarenren Bazee, and Felix Uduokhai all doubtful on Saturday.

Maassen must thus continue using the dynamic lineup that has given him some success in previous weeks.

Peter Gulasci, the first-choice goalkeeper for Leipzig, ruptured his cruciate ligament against Celtic earlier this month, rendering him ineligible for the foreseeable future.
