Nicolás Otamendi was arguably one of the backbones of the Argentine Men’s National team that won the World Cup in Qatar. The 34-year-old Benfica defender had an outstanding tournament which is currently attracting top clubs in Europe.
According to Fichajes, Otamendi was not interested in a return to Argentina amid Boca Juniors’ interest. But, he will consider offers to remain in Europe.
Fichajes revealed Atlético Madrid, led by Martín Demichelis, wants Otamendi in the team as they hope to strengthen their squad for the football season in 2023.
But the defender is reportedly unwilling to sign for the Argentine giants despite the contract with Benfica ending in 2023. Although Fabrizio Romano explains Benfica had offered him two more years at the club, talks remain stalled.
