Steven Gerrard started the new season with a shock loss to Premier League newcomers AFC Bournemouth despite optimism and the club’s supporters hyping the team ahead of the new season. However, the former Rangers boss will look to redeem himself as Everton visit Villa Park on Saturday.
Colombian midfielder Jefferson Lerma opened the scoring for AFC Bournemouth barely two minutes after kickoff, while Wales forward Kieffer Moore doubled the lead in the 80th minute to condemn the Villans to an opening day defeat.
Steven Gerrard named a strong starting eleven, which includes Coutinho, Ings and Bailey as the three forwards. But there was no breakthrough at the end of the ninety.

Aston Villa will be hoping to turn their fortunes around against visiting Everton that lost to Chelsea last weekend.

Aston Villa vs Everton Premier League 2022/23 Match Preview
Aston Villa suffered an opening day defeat at AFC Bournemouth. Two goals from each half took down the Villans at the Vitality Stadium.
Steven Gerrard utilised 4 – 3 – 3 with Coutinho, Ings and Bailey as the front three. The former Liverpool captain was successful with this formation during the preseason, especially in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
For improved results, Gerrard needs to effect a change in the team that lost to AFC Bournemouth. Danny Ings was excellent but fired blank.
In the defense, Steven Gerrard needs to make changes as it was observed to be vulnerable to set pieces against Bournemouth last weekend. Diego Carlos, Konsa and Cash played well at the back but were vulnerable to unexpected aerial balls.
Everton had a fantastic game against Chelsea but could not stop the blues, who grabbed the full points through Jorginho penalty kick.
Everton manager Frank Lampard helped the Toffees to avoid relegation from the top flight last season amid injuries problems in his team. The Blue side of Merseyside would face a tough test at Villa Park against Aston Villa in the early kickoff game of the weekend.
