Aston Villa keen on signing world cup winner Marcos Acuna
According to reports, defender Marcos Acuna of Sevilla has “verbally agreed” to join Aston Villa and will leave for England “in the next few days”.
The Villans are reportedly trying to strengthen their left-back options before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1. With Alex Moreno on the sidelines recovering from surgery, Lucas Digne is the only fit available player at that position.
Acuna has been a member of the Sevilla team for the past three years and was an integral part of the Argentina team that won their third World Cup. According to rumours in Spain, Villa will have to pay £13 million to persuade Sevilla to sell the seasoned full-back, who believes he could establish himself at Villa Park as a regular in the Premier League.
Given that the player and the West Midlands giants’ current sporting director Monchi previously worked together at the La Liga team, the former could find themselves in a strong negotiation position.
Before joining Sevilla three years ago, Acuna moved to Europe from Racing Club to Sporting CP in 2017. He has since made 124 appearances for the team, providing 12 assists and five goals.
The 31-year-old could end up being Villa’s fourth summer signing. Pau Torres joined from Villarreal, Youri Tielemans signed on a free transfer from Leicester City, and Moussa Diaby arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.
Acuna was a member of the Sevilla team that lost to Pep Guardiola’s side in the UEFA Supercup final.
