Argentina biggest losses in football – Top 5 heaviest defeats in history
Argentina is the new world champion in football! Lionel Messi managed to win the only trophy he has left and with which he will remain crowned as the best football player in history.
In the biggest final in history and probably the biggest football match ever, Leo withstood superhuman pressure after losing a 2:0 lead. Then he won the title with his compatriots on penalties.
It is the first world championship title that will not remain in Europe since 2002 when Brazil became champions for the sixth and last time. But let’s see some of the worst results the current world champion had in his history.
Spain 6 – 1 Argentina, March 27, 2018
Even though it was a friendly match, Argentina without Messi humiliated Madrid 6:1! The players of Spain completely outplayed Argentina 6:1 in a friendly match played in Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Spain was in great form at the time and showed its power against the then world champion Germany, although it failed to win (1:1), that’s why it demonstrated its class in front of its fans and humiliated the back-then vice-champion of the world.

Bolivia 6 – 1 Argentina, April 1, 2019
Argentina’s legend and back-then manager Diego Armando Maradona suffered his first defeat since he sat on the bench. In what has been described as the biggest shock in the history of the qualifiers, Bolivia swept the two-time world champions 6:1 on their home turf! It is interesting that in the first three matches when Maradona led the team, Argentina did not concede a goal, and the disastrous edition in La Paz ended as one of the greatest and most embarrassing defeats in Argentina’s history.
Czechoslovakia 6 – 1 Argentina, June 15, 1958
It was a group stage match at World Cup 1958 in Sweden. Czechoslovakia was one of the greatest national teams in the world back then. However, these two countries were knocked out in the group stage as Northern Ireland and West Germany were better placed teams.
It will always be remembered that this is the greatest defeat in World Cups for the national team of Argentina.
Argentina 0 – 5 Colombia, September 5, 1993
This is probably the heaviest and biggest defeat of Argentina on home ground. In the qualifications for World Cup in 1993, Colombia made the biggest surprise by scoring five goals in Argentina’s net. Many Colombians, even today, consider this match the greatest match of the national football team in history.

Uruguay 5 – 0 Argentina, December 16, 1959
In 1959 in Campeonato Sudamericano in Ecuador, Uruguay recorded its biggest win against its great rival Argentina in group 1. At the end of the group stage, Uruguay finished as the 1st placed team, which wasn’t a coincidence. Still, this team played an extremely offensive football, something like total football, and that brought them results as this team won the competition.
