Amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Lewandowski makes a bold statement regarding his future
Winning the La Liga Golden Boot in his first season in the Spanish top flight is a significant achievement of Robert Lewandowski, and the Polish forward wants to see to it that he completes a memorable career in Spain.
In recent weeks, rumours of a potential move to Saudi Arabia have surfaced as the Arab country continues its raid on the European transfer market to strengthen the status of its professional football league.
But amid this rumour, the Poland striker has made it clear his intentions to stay in Barcelona in the short term.
“My retirement is close and it is possible that I will end up in Barcelona, where my family and I feel very comfortable. Only after my contract ends will I start to wonder if I want to continue playing. Saudi Arabia? Today I am happy in Barcelona, and I want to fulfill my contract.” said Lewandowski, as cited by Fichajes.
Saudi Arabia clubs Al Nassr and Al Ittihad have pulled some of the craziest transfer deals lately as top players like Karim Benzema, Kante, and Ruben Neves head to the Middle East.
Last season, Lewandowski contributed significantly to Barcelona’s performance as they won the La Liga title for the first time since the 2018–19 season.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has been concerned about the potential departure of his most important player, but the recent message from the Pole would ease the tensions.
The Blaugrana will be counting on Lewandowski as they hope to return to top European football next season following the arrival of Manchester City captain Ilkay Gündoğan yesterday.
