Over the years, the German Bundesliga has served as the original home for American soccer players in Europe.

 

The league is termed as one of the most friendly European Soccer Leagues For American soccer players to thrive, some of these players have gone on to join other big leagues in the continent.

 

For the 2021/2022 Bundesliga season, there’s an array of American soccer players and USMNT representatives spread across the two top divisions as well as some in the third league.

 

 

After the last campaign, Giovanni Reyna, Josh Sargent and John Brooks made the headlines for the right reasons.

Adams over the last two seasons have held on to his position at the back, helping Leipzig through the storm in the UEFA Champions League.

 

 

As a resilient team, Leipzig has not failed to finish in the top three positions at the end of every season, beginning from their first campaign in the 2016–17 season.

 

Tyler Adams who was signed by New York Red Bulls in 2019 became a well known fullback as he became one of Julian Nagglesman preferred choices.

 

The most remarkable moment in the career of the American defender was the winning goal he scored to help RB Leipzig reach their first-ever UEFA Champions League semifinals.

In the second matchday, Tyler was also involved as Leipzig claimed their first three points.

 

In the third matchday against a more formidable VfL Wolfsburg side, Adams and teammates could not keep a clean as fellow compatriot John Brooks earned all three points.

3. Timothy Chandler

 

[Eintracht Frankfurt – Bundesliga]

Chandler who’s been a Bundesliga faithful throughout his Professional Soccer career formed a major part of the Frankfurt team last season.

 

As a defender, Timothy Chandler has had over 135 appearances for the club since 2014 when he decided to switch from 1. FC Nürnberg.

 

Chandler is one of the top Bundesliga Americans veterans with much experience in the division.

 

At least, he could be one of the reasons American soccer players have seen the league as friendlier.

4. John Brooks

John Brooks was one of the reasons behind VfL Wolfsburg quick return to Champions League Soccer.

 

The club had faced dwindling form in the last one to two seasons across all competitions.

 

Brooks alongside Timothy Chandler are the top American soccer veterans in the Bundesliga.

 

The 28-year old began his soccer career with Hertha BSC where he also made his professional debut for the club.

 

Leaving Hertha BSC in 2017, the German American joined Wolfsburg.

 

 

Although most of his career at the club had been affected by injuries, Brooks turned out superb throughout the 2020/2021 season to help VfL Wolfsburg qualify for the UEFA Champions League once again.

So far, the American has made tremendous progress since the commencement of the new Soccer season in Germany.

 

Brooks notable contributed in the 2021/2022 season was a full ninety minutes appearance to help Wolfsburg’s overcome visitors RB Leipzig on matchday three.

 

With the group stages of the Champions League set to make a return from September 2021, Brooks is expected to be fit for Wolfsburg as they tackle yet again another tough European journey.

 

VfL Wolfsburg has been drawn in Group G having Ligue 1 winners Lille, Sevilla, and Red Bull Salzburg.

 

 

Brooks is currently in 100/100 for Wolfsburg this season with three appearances in the season.

 

5. Chris Richards

 

[Bayern Munich – Bundesliga]

Chris Richards plays as a defender for Bayern Munich.

 

Signed from FC Dallas after a successful trial at FC Bayern Munich, Richards was quickly integrated into the Bayern Munich reserve team

 

He made over 30 appearances for Bayern Munich II in 2019 after he had signed a permanent contract with the club.

 

He also played a part in Bayern Munich 2020 exceptional season where the club won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World.

 

He was loaned out to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the remaining part of the 2020/2021 Bundesliga season.

 

Richards 2021/2022 Bundesliga outlook

The 21-year old has already played once for Bayern Munich this season.

 

He gathered just three minutes of action in Bayern Munich hard-fought Bundesliga matchday two wins over FC Köln.

 

Richards also featured for the club in the DFB Pokal as the German giants thrashed lower division side, Bremer, by a 12-0 scoreline.

 

Coach of the side Julian Nagglesman introduced Richards after the start of the second half in place of Niklas Sule.

 

6. Julian Green

 

[Greuther Fürth – Bundesliga]

Julian Wesley Green plays for Bundesliga newly-promoted side Greuther Fürth.

 

He plays dual roles. He can play as an attacking midfielder and a winger.

 

Green has also spent the major of his Professional Soccer career in Germany.

 

Began with Bayern Munich II, he switched to Hamburger SV and then to VfB Stuttgart, where he was also loaned to Greuther Fürth and was retrained at the end of the deal.

 

Green was part of the club’s successful campaign last season in the Bundesliga 2 which earned them promotion back to the Bundesliga.

 

Since the start of the new season, Green has played every match including the DFB-Pokal loss to Babelsberg.

 

7. Timothy Tillman

 

[Greuther Fürth – Bundesliga]

Timothy Justin Tillman is the second American soccer player at Greuther Fürth. He joins who’s been in the books of the club since 2018.

 

Tillman moved from 1. FC Nürnberg after just a year with the club.

 

Since he made his debut for the club in 2020, he’s formed part of the team and helped in the successful Bundesliga promotion last season.

 

For the 2021/2022 season, Timothy Tillman could not feature for Greuther Fürth after three matchdays into the season.

8. Mathew Hoppe

 

[Schalke 04 – Bundesliga 2]

Matthew Timothy Hoppe is the next-generation American soccer player to watch in the Bundesliga.

 

It was a bad experience for Hoppe who had his senior debut for Schalke 04, the same season the club got relegated to the Second Bundesliga.

 

Hoppe’s breakthrough moment was back on January 9, 2021, as he scored a hat-trick, which is also his first senior goal for the club against Hoffenheim.

 

Hoppe was awarded the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for January 2021.

 

9. Kobe Hernandez-Foster

 

[VfL Wolfsburg – Bundesliga]

Kobe Hernandez-Foster is currently in the books of VfL Wolfsburg for the new Bundesliga season.
