AC Milan’s chase for the league title yet again received another blow. The Rossoneri have won just one of their last three league matches in the build-up to the important clash with their neighbours in the Italian Cup.

Under Stefano Pioli this season, AC Milan did have what was seen as a significant step in the chase for the title, which has been a near miss for the club for the last three seasons.

In the Coppa Italia this season, Milan have enjoyed a smooth ride through the elimination rounds, including 4-0 thumping of Lazio in the quarter-finals.

Going into the game, AC Milan is optimistic of a favourable result judging by the recent win over Inter Milan in the league after Olivier Giroud inspired the comeback.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, allowed their lead at the top of the Série A table to be cut down by AC Milan and Napoli, who currently lead by 57 points along with AC Milan.

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi would be taking positives from the earlier loss to Milan. The Nerazzurri have lost two and drawn two of their last four matches.

Simone Inzaghi’s frustration in the league would be kept aside for the all-important Cup tie.

Olivier Giruod and Rafael Leão have scored three and two goals respectively and are available for selection. Franck Kessié and Alexis Saelemaekers have scored at least once in the competition.
