Qatari footballer Abdulrasheed Umaru made his debut in the new NPFL season for FC Ifeanyi Ubah as the Anambra based club lost on the road to Sunshine Stars.
Previously with Qatar Stars League side Al Ahli Doha, the 19-year old left the oil-rich country for a different challenge in his career with Ifeanyi Ubah backed by Senator of the Nigerian federal republic, Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
The Nigerian side has been known for it’s a way of recruiting foreigners into the team including notable names like Alberico Da Silva from Brazil, Pascal Seka and Japanese Professional coach Kenichi.
Although the duration of his contract with the club was not known, the Qatari footballer is expected to prosecute the 2020/2021 football league season with the Billionaire club.
He started his career as a youth with Qatar based club Al Ahli in 2015, before heading to Aspire Academy in the city of Doha. His career, however, took a different turn when Belgian league side KAS Eupen came for his services in 2019.
Abdulrasheed Umaru began his Professional Football career with Al Ahli Doha in 2019 after returning from his short adventure in Belgium with Eupen.
In total, he had 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring three times.
Moving to Ifeanyi Ubah for the 2020/21 season, the midfielder made his debut as Ifeanyi Ubah travelled for their matchday two clashes with Akure based side Sunshine Stars.
Coach of Ifeanyi Ubah Okagbue gave him his full debut as he was allowed to play ninety minutes despite the team’s loss through Oguniyi early strike in the 9th minute.
Abdulrasheed Umaru Ibrahim becomes the first Qatari footballer to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League since it’s inception and probably the first Asian to do so.
The Nigerian league has played host to several players within and outside the African continent including players from Brazil and Bulgaria.
The NPFL club are expected to grab one of the continental places at end of the season.
