In an epic game at the Mestalla on Friday night, Atletico Madrid were forced to 2-2 draw by host Valencia who came from behind twice to force Atletico Madrid who were set to move with all three points on the night.
Llorente scored Atleti’s first goal after the first fifteen minutes into the game before Valencia drew level through Gabriel. However, it took Valencia by surprise when Thomas Partey restored Atletico Madrid’s lead in the 43rd minute going into half time.
The coach spoke after the match in a press conference.
“Both teams had many chances to score. We hurt them a lot on the break in the first half, whereas they created problems for us in the second. It was a tough game against a team that haven’t lost at their stadium. This is how we have to compete, because this is the way forward” Simeone said.
Atleti’s dominance still did not stop Valencia as they needed only Parejo to square the ball up for Kondogbia to put the match back on level terms.
Atletico Madrid look to be missing out on some firepower even as Diego Costa was rested for the upcoming game against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League next week.
Alvaro Morata was introduced in the second when he came on for Arias in the 66th minute.
