Recent comments by Lucien Favre indicates the manager is playing safe with the Norwegian striker who is yet to be fully thrown in the fray.
Favre said Haaland is still not fully ready to play full Bundesliga matches as he hopes to keep the Norwegian safe for the battle ahead.
So far, Haaland have got over eight goals in four appearances for Dortmund. Out of the four, he has only started a single game while the rest he was made to start from the bench.
Going into the game against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, Haaland could still remain on the bench rather than starting as a lone striker in Lucien Favre’s prefered style.
Julian Brandt who has been phenomenal, catching Favre’s eyes in recent matches could be the one the manager would bank on, alongside Jadon Sancho who has been exceptional in Dortmund shirt.
The Black Yellow will miss out on Marco Reus who got sidelined due to muscle injury during Dortmund DFB POKAL loss to Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion. Dortmund need to win to stay close to Bayern and Leipzig who faceoff later in the day in a table toppers clash.
Dortmund grinding out a favourable result against Leverkusen would mean a lot.
There are chances Lucien Favre would get the better of Leverkusen with Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt playing at the flanks while Thorgan Hazard play as the lone striker.
Bringing Erling Braut Haaland in the second to help stabilize and score more goals woul be a nice idea after all. Favre’s main priority is to start Haaland from the bench for reasons best known to him.
