Simeone not worried about Supercopa loss, points out areas of improvement

Diego Simeone has expressed the need to move on from Supercopa loss to Real Madrid in Jeddah after a hard fought final ended in defeat. Atletico Madrid played out a goal less draw but lost out during a penalty shootout.

Diego Simeone had no Diego Costa, and it was only Alvaro Morata as a main striker and the Argentine tactician had to place Joao Felix as an attacker in a 4-4-2 formation which worked well against Barcelona and Real Madrid semi final and final respectively.

After the match, Diego Simeone said he was proud of competing in the Supercopa despite failing to win the trophy at the end.

 

We’re proud to have competed. We played the two best teams in the world in three days and competed very well. It makes us want to keep improving. We had several chances to score, particularly towards the end of the game. We played better tonight than against Barcelona,” as per Atletico Madrid website.

Atletico Madrid  travel to face Eibar on Saturday night in the Spanish La Liga as the La Liga makes a return after a break was observed for the Supercopa tournament. Atletico Madrid are second on the La Liga table with 35 and are five points below joint league leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid.
