Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger has given his backing to the club’s move to bring in Mikel Arteta and says he will support whoever is in charge at the Emirates.

The man City coach, who was captain at Arsenal under Wenger,is expected to be announced as the permanent successor to Unai Emery imminently,having agreed a £5m-a-year contract to take over.

Arteta has held a series of interviews with the gunners hierarchy over the last few days and Josh kroenke,son of owner Stan, has returned to America to put the final touches on the deal.

Wenger identified Arteta as a potential future coach while he was still a player and spoke highly of him when he was first linked with the Arsenal role, even as a novice coach.
