Manchester City had a strong defense when Eliaquim Mangala was in the heart of defense alongside Vincent Kompany. Right now City’s defense looks bad week in week out and the inability to preserve lead during matches days has also become a problem.
Mangala joined Manchester City from Portuguese side FC Porto in 2014.
Mangala was good, he was so important for the club before he was loaned out during the Centurion season.
Mangala’s notable moments include during the Manchester Derby back in 2015 and in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
City’s defense is not settled yet and needs some sort of stability.
Guardiola had a plan that did not include the likes of Managala, Kompany and Fabian Delph.
Why was he sold?
Apparently, every coach have got his own plan and style of play he wants to employ, and he also knows the kind of players that can adapt to his philosophy. Guardiola had a plan, he knew what’s right for the club so he went for the players that he knows can play for to his style and Mangala was not an option so he had to move on.
What Manchester City need right now
Guardiola needs to look inwards or probably look for a solution elsewhere now that he has a lot time in his hands. City have lost the second spot to a hard fighting Leicester City.
Liverpool who are on a runaway level have the best legs in the Premier League alongside Manchester City, but things seems to be working fine with Liverpool an this is as a result of proper management of all sections.
Klopp took charge of every department at he club, starting from the defence to the attack. Because of his defensive worries he went all out to sign Virgil Van Dijk who was the most expensive defender as at then before Manchester United bought Harry Maguire who now hold such record.
Mangala added some stability to city’s defense and Guardiola need to look into the market for better defender before things get worse.
Defender Manchester City should go for
Kaloudi Coulibaly: Plays as a defender for Napoli and has shown to be a better defender, a reason why Manchester United was fighting to sign him before landing Harry Maguire.
