Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have completed the signing of Josko Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb for 17 million euros, with an initial with the club until 2021.
The 18-year old central defender will remain with his club for one more season as announced by the club.
Josko Gvardiol has been pictured as a perfect replacement for Dayot Upamecano who is expected to leave the Saxony based club as a result of a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the club from 2021.
Leipzig’s sporting director appears to be making plans ahead of time in case of any sudden eventually that may arise as a result of player exit from the club.
Dayot Upamecano has been linked with several European clubs recently and as several media reports have suggested, the Frenchman could depart the club for a new challenge in the nearest future.
Clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have had links with the player recently.
The newly signed 18-year defender is expected to improve leipzig’s defense according to the club’s sporting director.
“I am very happy to be able to take the step to RB Leipzig. The club is one of the top clubs in the Bundesliga and has a clear game idea. It was important for me to switch to a club that could enable me to take the next steps as a professional footballer as a young player. That is exactly what RB Leipzig embodies. ”
Leipzig sports director sees a lot of potential in the young defensive player: “With Josko Gvardiol we were able to sign one of the greatest European defensive talents. As a left-footer, we will be positioned even more variably with him in the squad. At the age of 18 he is of course still a young player, but his overall development – both athletically and personally – is already very mature.”
